Heading to King’s Ireland

So I watch airline flights the way some people watch stocks.  When I saw that there were lots of groupons and living socials heading to Ireland I started keeping an eye on tickets prices.  Conveniently Aer Lingus had some pretty fantastic deals that just happened to be available around Gabby’s spring break, and so we planned a trip to Ireland.  I searched vrbo.com, homeaway.com, and tripadvisor.com and found our accomodations and set up our car rental.  We told the girls we were taking them on a trip to look for fairies, leprechauns and giants, and that pretty much sold them.  Lottie for reasons I cannot explain decided to tell everyone that we were going to King’s Ireland and there is never any use trying to correct her, so King’s Ireland it is.

When we left I was lulled into thinking this might be the easiest travel experience we’ve had.  CVG was like a ghost town.  There was no wait at the ticket line.  We got through security in no time.  Even our arrival at O’Hare was fairly simple.  We found the kids play area and thought we had plenty of time to kill.  Then we realized our second flight was in terminal 5, which required a ride on the airport train, checking in at another ticket counter and going back through security.  Thanks for the efficiency Chicago :(

The flight on Aer Lingus was, like all flights, a means to an end.  Airplanes aren’t comfortable and they are even less so with kids.  Lottie maybe slept for 3 hours of our overnight flight and I probably slept for less.  The flight attendants on Aer Lingus were delightful and at least we got dinner and breakfast to tide us over until we found our next meal.  Flying overnight and having a 4 hour time difference was a little tiring.  But who can complain when you end up in Ireland surrounded by the nicest people I’ve ever met?
Playing at O'Hare before we realized we had to exit the airport and go back through security to get to our terminal :(
